If you deside on making a fursuit, first get reference art on how you want the suit to look.
Even when you make the suit yourself (as I do) it helps out tremendously. (This is -THE- most important step)
It also gives the advantage of getting responses from people as you post it on FA.
Aand generally you want to keep kinks out of it.
Its not only from how people see you, but how the public responds to it.
A good guide in "Is my suit socially acceptable" is that you can visit a kindergarten without people having to ask questions.
This way you are sure that no one is offended.
You can make accesoires that go along with the fursuit, that further tell the story of your character, and in case of you doubting if a said accesiore is ok at a furcon (because it can be seen as a fetish item) you should always ask con-ops if something is ok.
This makes con-ops very happy with you in general, and saves you trouble in the case something is not ok.
If you think a suit is going to be cheap if you did it yourself, no, it is not.
You have to spend a lot of time in researching techniques ~how am I going to make this, or how do I show that
If you need any help, look me up on FA, I can give you all sorts of help, just ask
