So...  FurNation has now blocked us on twitter, after our most recent offer of helping them with web hosting free of charge.

It seems they would rather spend the money of donators needlessly on SUPER overpriced server space from OVH, instead of even temporarily going a route that would give them a chance to firmly get on their feet.  It sours my attitude to see this kind of stubborness in a site owner/leader, but apparently its more important for them to have their own way out with no help, and at the cost of almost 5 times what ours is, needlessly blowing their donors hard earned money out the door because they can.

Donations are very helpfull to assist with server costs, but i personally consider their current plan self destructive, such high montly costs for a site of their size is maddenning, FYI their cost is ~350 a month.

I personally believe donations are nice, but not to be relied on to keep a project going, i never rely on donations to pay for our costs, it would be nice if they did someday.  But i knew if at all it would not be anytime soon, thus i planned from the start to keep the costs down, and keep things efficient financially.  What they are doing over there.  Is taking the cash they were gifted, and going out and buying the bad ass, 50-75% marked up overkill of a server, just because they think they need all that to defend attacks.  They will discover it doesnt work that way however.

Protection comes from good planning, good firewalling, a very good mitigation team at the datacenter, and sometimes some luck.  Having all that does worlds more, then just getting a big as hell server, and hoping it can outrun the attacks.

Pride often gets in the way.
